ABOUT

Sobriety is a daily choice. An addict has to overhaul nearly every facet of their lives in order to stay clean, and even then there are factors beyond their control. It is not as simple as willpower. An addict is constantly challenged by their environment.

Each actor was tasked with representing a specific struggle connected to getting “clean,”both literally and figuratively. Afterwards, they were interviewed about the experience, their research and what action-based steps they believe we can take as a community to improve this national health emergency.

“Relapse rates for people treated for substance use disorders are compared with those for people treated for high blood pressure and asthma. Relapse is common and similar across these illnesses. If people stop following their medical treatment plan, they are likely to relapse. Therefore, substance use disorders should be treated like any other chronic illness. Relapse serves as a sign for resumed, modified, or new treatment.”
